Burning Film47

I am excited to put this movie up as it is my first attempt at giving editing a go. The footage is quite old however, there is some cool shots in there that James Wise and I have collected from our travels and learning how to use film camera’s at the same time. so the results have varied in quality but like all venture’s worth achieving you have to be persistent and learn the tricks of the trade just like James has achieved with his filming now and as you will see with our upcoming film to be released this year with great results and what i am aiming to learn a new skill in editing..
Concentrating from Sydney to Hawaii on my first editing attempt. Hope you enjoy & let me know what you think of it! Mitch!

The transition to the initial surfing section could be a bit smoother. That said…what a F***’n “first attempt at ginving editing a go”!! The music is perfect, the way it bonds to the images is superb, the colours are fantastic, the whole aestethics is awesome. And the way you use the slow motion is on the money. Not too much, just enough for the dramatic effect. Congrats, man. Stylish as your riding.

Those shots of the locals were a perfect fit for the background music, where was that shot anyway?

  23. Posted February 9th, 2010 at 11:01 am

    those shots where in indonesia

  24. Posted February 9th, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Nice edit. In contrast to a previous comment I actually liked the transition from lifestyle to the surfing – the wave so flippin epic!

    Good footage.

  25. Posted February 9th, 2010 at 3:33 pm

this is awesome mitch… question, how was your experience with the film camera? was it super 8? if so, where and what did you use to convert it? i want to purchase a super 8, but scared ill end up with just a shelf toy, and no way to enjoy it.

  26. Posted February 9th, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Well film camera’s are epic i personally love the look of film over digital however it is quite expensive even more so while you are learning but don’t let that stop you.we are using super 16 film not super 8 but super 8 is really easy to work with and not to expensive the best way to find out if you are really interested is to visit a site called pro8millimeter or something like that and that will explain the whole process involved

  27. Posted February 9th, 2010 at 4:44 pm

That was F**KN great. What cam were you using to get the barrel shots on your board?
Please let me know, its super crisp. Also i think the part that had the most effect was the 1st slow mo cut back, watching the water steaming of the rail almost didn’t look real!

  28. Posted February 9th, 2010 at 5:31 pm

    Hi follow the swell.

The camera is a photo-sonics 16mm high-speed camera. I have a full kit (very rare) I’m looking to sell if you are interested I will DM you the detail.

  29. Posted February 9th, 2010 at 7:59 pm

fuck yeah Mitch!! those cutty shots are the best ive ever seen hands down.. that just made my day.

Mitch, Love the board cam. I think it would be awesome if you took gopro to a different level. Perhaps on some bigger sessions and tow outs! Would be a good mixture to the rest of the dope angles you have! Can’t wait for release!
