About
I’ve filled two fifty-page passports in my life, my third has only three pages blank for the immigration officer to stamp – I travel a lot!
Wave riding has taken me to Coastlines all around the world where I’ve met amazing people and experienced their cultures.
Dave Rastovitch once said “If you enjoy your work you will never work a day in your life” I consider myself extremely fortunate that I love what I do. So I always take that quote as a guide, Im one of the luckiest guys around and not everyone gets to do what they love.

On Bodyboarding I’m the biggest fan of my own sport, I love seeing any bodyboarder flying high above the lip or deep in a massive barrel. Nothing gets me more excited!
I love that the sport is progressing and with variations of old moves and new moves being attempted it’s an exciting time. We have Organisations around the world gaining momentum and building solid tours that are attracting bigger sponsors, it’s all good. I’m still just as pumped now as I was as a kid, when the latest magazine hits the newsstands or the internet or the latest film is about to be released I cant wait!
On Surfboard Riding If I didn’t love riding a bodyboard so much I would be riding surfboards, its something I love doing when I need to find inspiration in the ocean. I love watching the top surfers like Kelly Slater, Andy Irons and Joel Parko on a wave. If you could combine all the talents of these guys just like if you could combine Mike Stewart, Spencer Skipper, Jeff Hubbard, Ryan Hardy and Ben Player. You would have the most versatile wave rider in the world. Anyway, it’s something I’m always thinking of and staying open to the possibilities of achieving anything.
On Surfing with Friends Surfing with and one of my best mates, standup rider Dean Harrington is always fun. Hazza will never take anything too serious even if it’s a matter of life or death, he has the ability to laugh in the most annoying situations and just has fun with whatever is going on. Stuff just happens when Dean is around and life could never be dull in his presence. I certainly had some experiences with Hazza which I will never forget.
On Big Waves When I’m surfing big waves I like to be around people that are pushing the boundaries — both physically & mentally, but having fun doing it. When people show fear and panic it puts a negative vibe on the session so I try to steer clear of ‘em. I still feel the rush of fear and it’s definitely something that drives me when it’s big. It’s a different style of surfing – chasing big swells. You can spend 48 hours hunting a swell to only catch 3 or 4 waves but the thrill in that 10 seconds is worth all the effort. It’s been a few years since I started chasing big waves, it’s something that never feels 100% comfortable.
On Grommets I get amped when I see a big group of grommets at the beach. Frothing all day long, happy to spend sun up to sun down zipped up in their wetsuits. All of them burnt to a crisp with dried salt lines plastered across their foreheads. When I think back to being at that stage of my life, it seemed to be pumping all day every day! The only time I spent out of the water was fighting with my mates over hot chips or whatever food we could get our hands on.
On Film Making I have a new passion, film making. I love the whole process from being in front to being behind the camera. I have spent the past 4 years developing a business in film production with one of my mates James Wise who grew up in NSW. James has been based in Western Australia with me for the past 3 years helping co-produce my ideas. We have captured what I think are some of the craziest sessions of my life and what we have planned will be like nothing shown before. It’s has been an extremely difficult/expensive process where you are always experimenting, inventing new processes and when it’s all said & done — it’s been a blast.
We’ve got a growing team of contributors, one of which is Tom Hannam, Tom’s in charge of editing our dreams into reality, cutting hours & hours of footage into workable sections. Although he is quite a young whipper snapper his skills in post production are beyond his years.
I have also worked closely with an old mate Chris Bryan, who I consider one of the world’s best water cinematographers in collaboration with Chris we’ve mounted cameras onto boards, jet skis, and filmed from all types of angles to get the perfect perspectives.
We are constantly throwing ourselves into the deep end and learning our way out, it’s truly an exciting time for us. One which I should be able to show you in the not to distant future.
On Inspiration I get inspiration from everywhere not just from bodyboarding and my childhood hero Mike Stewart. It comes from a lot of different areas skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding and all kinds of sports. I’m just a sports junkie! I even aimed to make my inverts like a perfect Michael Jordan slam, that’s how far and wide my inspiration has come from. I look to all things to get inspiration in my surfing.
On Winning a World Title I have never won a World Title but I have come second on two occasions. I believe I’m capable when I fully apply myself. It’s my goal to achieve it and I’ve always wondered what it would feel like to be crowned the world’s best. Would it be as great as everyone makes it out to be? There is only one way to find out!
On Family My family mean the world to me. They have been a huge part of my success in life and I always try to include them in everything I do. It takes being out on your own to realise this.
On the New Generation I am always watching the new guys coming up through the ranks these are the guys that keep you on your toes. You know they want to beat you, so it’s important for me to watch these guys and push myself. I’m conscious not to get complacent with my surfing and It’s my goal to be in the game for many years yet.
On Famous People The most famous person I have met, would have to be World Champion Surfer Andy Irons. He was really down to earth which surprised me. I thought he would be completely different after watching the Jack McCoy film Blue Horizon. It was a great film but I don’t think it captured his personality. I’d love to spend a day with Travis Pastrana and his crew that would be extremely entertaining.
On Music I love listening to all kinds of music, I’ve never been one to remember all the words to the songs though, I just enjoy the head space you can get to with music. Sigur Ros from Iceland would have to be my favourite at the moment, I can listen to them anytime.
On Books I’m always reading, no one can get a word out of me when I am, I completely shut off and just get so engrossed with what I’m doing sometimes. I usually read non-fiction books like a biography on a great sports personality or something but I also love fiction like the Lord of the Rings series.
